Reactions from Week 8 + Predictions for Week 9 of the 2024 College Football Season

Number 1 goes down again, this time with Texas, leaving no undefeated teams left in the SEC. I can’t remember a year that was the case since maybe 2007, when that was chaotic itself for all the upsets starting with no.5 Michigan against Applachian State.

Additional chaos ensured when the SEC officiating crew led by Matt Loeffler had overturned a call on their own doing when Texas was called for pass interference and fans threw bottles onto the field. This sadly isn’t the first time I’ve seen that, as Michigan students did the same on September 10, 2005 in a 17-10 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. I can’t remember what the repercussions were, but ever since I hadn’t seen anything like it until this past Saturday.

Michigan is unranked for the first time in three years, and the last defending champion to be unranked at some point the following season was LSU in 2020. I suppose LSU lost a lot too that season, and Ed Orgeron couldn’t develop guys after Joe Burrow left and JaMarr chase opted out. Hopefully Sherrone Moore can right the ship starting with the Paul Bunyan Trophy game against Michigan State this Saturday.

Due to time constraints in my own schedule, I’m just going to start with the games prior to Saturday and update this prior to the remainder of the games this week. I’m excited to see Indiana be in the national spotlight again as College Gameday heads to Bloomington for the first time.
