Predictions for Week 3 of the 2023 College Football Season + Misses from Week 2

Week 2 is in the books, and for the third time, a Nick Saban protégè has defeated the master. This also makes a third different assistant to beat Nick Saban, and the first time Nick Saban has lost to a former assistant at home. Washington State got a big win over a big ten team, Miami got a big win, and a few teams survived scares. Mel Tucker is suspended for the foreseeable future and it will be interesting to see how the Spartans continue without him. LSU and Clemson bounced back in big ways despite playing inferior teams. This season will be chaotic for sure, and is an extension to the chaos that already ensued before the season even started. ESPN indicated too that this is the first time in 6 years that every power 5 conference was represented in the AP top 5. Back in 2017, it was 1) Alabama, 2) Ohio State, 3) Clemson, 4) USC, 5) Oklahoma. This year it is 1) Georgia, 2) Michigan, 3) Florida State, 4) Texas, 5) USC.

Additionally, while he is not a freshman, Bert Auburn has the most ironic name in all of college football. He’s the kicker for Texas, whose main color is ‘Bert’ Orange, and his team has played Alabama twice (and won at least once) before Auburn has so far in his college career.

I will try to make sure I don’t do it again, but in the first two weeks, I failed to predict all the games that happened each week. I missed Temple/Rutgers last week after missing another game in week 1.

As a footnote, part of the reason there are fewer games to do predictions on because fewer teams in the FBS level are playing lower-level teams, despite it still being the middle of September for playing non-conference games. This will continue to decrease as we get into October and November, as teams will exclusively compete against other teams in their conference, where there will be a total of ~65 games to reflect that there are 130 teams in the FBS.
